Vassiliki Bay in Lefkada - ideal for wind-surfing vacations, a surfer's paradise!

Vassiliki Beach is well known among wind surfing fans and is considered one of the best locations in the world for water sports fans.

Vassiliki bay benefits from onshore breezes building during the morning. This means that if you get up early enough you can wake-board across the bay while everything's still smooth, then beginner's lessons take place in the morning while winds are relatively light. Other groups go out then as well and practice all the their moves and tricks in safe, light winds.

As the bay gets hotter and the air in it rises, it starts to suck the colder air in over the moutain at the side of the bay separating it from the main Ionian sea. Over lunchtime you can see the flags changing from a steady onshore breeze to a stronger cross-shore wind for the afternoon (the wind's called Eric). By 2.30pm the wind can often be howling across the bay and it's time for those who can to go hooning out to sea and back and generally looking very cool indeed. Lifeguards are permanently watching and the rescue boat is not just for getting you out of difficulty.
